6 ways to keep your personal, professional, and social life separate

Source

My last post was all about 'why separate your personal, professional and social life' and I thought I have to make some tips for the people who would like to keep their personal, professional and social life separate. I came up with my top 6 ways that will help you keep your personal, professional and social life separate.
If you want to add anything then please comment below. I love hearing what you guys think <3

1. Timing
Time when to do everything. Have a certain time for when you need to go to work, and when you get to spend time with loved ones. Make a timetable if it helps and separate your working and personal life. This just breaks it down so you're not working 24-7 and don't neglect your personal life. When you leave work then leave all thoughts about work there. When you are at home focus on your personal matters. Lastly when you go out concentrate on having a good time.

2. Balance/consistency
This does link in with the first one but trying to find a balance of everything is a good start. Some professional jobs are hard to manage with your personal life (for example- the time of your job, or you might get work to do at home) but it's crucial to find that balance. It's best to have that balance so you don't neglect your personal life or your professional life.

3. Separate email accounts / social media
This is a really good way to separate your personal and professional life. If you have different email accounts then your professional account allows you to communicate with who you need required by your profession. Your personal email account can be used for personal purposes and whoever you need to contact with outside of your professional life. Likewise it's good to have different social media accounts (if you need to) for your personal and professional life. This just separates your lives and you don't get mixed with them both.

4. Time off
Make sure you don't end up spending time on one thing for a full week. For example- Don't work morning to midnight for a full week. Take time off, go out for a walk, go do something you enjoy and take the time off. Let your mind clear so you can allow yourself to come up with fresh new ideas. There's nothing worse than overworking.

5. Focus
When you are at work make sure you are working and not online trying to build up your followers on Instagram. If you have any distractions try to get rid of them (turn your phone off, turn push notifications off etc.) and concentrate on your task. You'll finish your job much quicker. Do what only falls under your job requirements so if someone asks you to do something that you don't get paid for, kindly say no because that is not what you're getting paid to do. If you have a deadline to meet then schedule it so you can focus on completing it.

6. Make rules!
You read it right, make rules! So spend your personal time socialising with friends who are not co-workers, and if your friends happen to be your co-worker then make sure you only discuss about work during office hours. Limit discussions about work when socialising and in your home life. These little rules can help you find that balance.

There you go, my top 6 ways to keep your personal, professional and social life separate.
Do you have any tips to add to this? And which tip do you agree with the most?

  1. These are all brilliant points, particularly having multiple email accounts - it prevents unwanted emails and therefore thoughts from interrupting your 'down time' :)
