Does a degree buy you manners?

Source
Have you ever seen someone go for a degree to gain ‘respect’ or a certain status? Instead of doing it because you love it and have goals to meet in life, some people do it for a certain status. I don't believe a degree buys you manners or respect. I agree that you gain a certain amount of knowledge and understanding of the subject. I agree that not EVERYONE is like this. But, I'm just passing my opinion on the few people who are like this.

I’ve been seeing this a lot in the past years that whether it’s for marriage purposes, or a job or anything of that sort people DEMAND a degree. Now I won’t be the first or last to say that someone can have seven degrees or more, but if they aren’t a nice people or don't have manners then to be honest their degree isn’t worth anything to me.

It’s like going to school and achieving grades, some 'well-mannered' people may achieve the best grades and the people who don’t have any manners could end up achieving better grades than that but you can’t really do anything with paper, right?
If you as a person have manners, respect for others and are overall a humble and positive person then a person with a piece of paper isn’t going to be better than you.

Yeah some jobs require a degree to carry out professional things but one human isn’t superior to someone else because they have a degree.

Don’t be arrogant, it just isn’t pretty.

BE HUMBLE.

This was just my opinion on this topic, I would love to know what your opinion is on this matter. Make sure to leave your comments below.

  1. If there was a degree in kindness and human decency the world would be a much better place!

  2. You know what I hate? It's not just degrees they compare you by, it's looks, and success and importance. SO if they feel like somone else is better than you, they will shun you until they see you fit, then pretend they respect you. And I hate that. Be nice and respectful to everyone. Gosh.

  3. I'm sorry to hear you've come across certain people like that! They sound like Sheldon Cooper :P Being humble and down to earth is the trait of any good human being. People without degrees are also very successful too. We just live in a biased world.

    1. Yes we do indeed and it's a shame really. The world we live in now is very demanding and judgemental.

  4. I agree! I study law at one of the most established law schools in London, and you should see some of the people who attend my uni! They speak as if they are already top tier barristers and solicitors and are constantly looking down their noses at the rest of us mere mortals xx

    1. I'm soo sorry that you have had such an experience with people who have forgotten their inner kindness. I recently was speaking to someone on this topic and they said that they had been working in their chosen field for years & years, and as soon as someone who has a degree comes along they think that they know better than them and can tell them how to do their work. It's really sad that the world has turned to this.

  5. I am so thankful I know such a wonderful person like you, girlie. Even if it's virtually, I am thankful for your friendship, and proud of you and the message you put out there. I couldn't agree more with this post - it is so well written. Humbleness is something that is left forgotten. People measure success by what degree or a position they hold. That's not success. Success is being a kind and humble human being, helpful and tolerant to others <3
I really enjoyed this read, sweetie.

  8. I know a lot of people with and without degrees who think they are better than others because of one reason or another. And it is really sad because if we all realized that we are all the same and in the same boat then the world would be a much nicer place. Great post.

    1. I agree Lili! No one is superior to another, no one is perfect, no one is better than someone else, and we ARE all the same. We are all human beings and it's a shame that people have forgotten how to be kind. xxx

    1. I'm glad you agree Laura. I am sorry that you have met people who think they are superior to others. It is very crazy! It's not hard to be nice but I guess people just forget their inner kindess and need to be reminded :)

  10. I wholeheartedly agree with you but there are a lot of people in this world who certainly don't agree with this statement. Too sad and thanks for putting up such a good post. :)
