Is blogging easy?

The truth about blogging and is it easy?
Thanks to Emma Matthews for the beautiful visual representation.

Some people have the perception that blogging and even vlogging is easy. But, it’s far from the truth. Personally, blogging for myself is a hobby and I love it! On many occasions when telling people I have a blog, I mostly get asked if it’s easy. This post is for anyone who is curious about blogging or thinks it is easy.

Before you start a blog, you have to do some research, think about what you want to write about, your audience, your name, your logo, your theme, where you want to host your blog, your domain, and the list goes on. You have to think about all these different things, and when you start researching, you start to find other things in that. So, the list never ends.

There will be many times you get held back, or something doesn’t work the way you want it to. It happens to everyone. You may spend ages writing a post you love, but it may not get the engagement you want. Or, you promised something and there are setbacks in that goal.

There’s a lot of technical things involved in blogging and at one point or another you have to face them. It may be the coding of a theme or setting something right. And, you may need to learn more things about it, in order to sort out the problem.
You need to come up with different ideas, and write them down. Then, when you’re ready to write, you sometimes forget all the great ideas.
Writers block… yes it’s real. You can’t do anything during that time even if you really want to. You need to be in the correct frame of mind in order to write something good.
Sometimes your good content, that you’re really impressed with, will do worse and you’re ‘not so great’ content will do amazing. I don’t understand the logic of this, but it’s true.
Sometimes, you write a blog post and never end up publishing it.
You’ll have a lot of different ideas but you’ll never know how to put most of them in to action.
Putting your ideas and thoughts onto paper or generally writing them down can be hard!
Sometimes, you will not know what to say, or how to say it, and there's always a chance that you will offend someone.
Making sure the content you're creating is user friendly and interesting for your audience.
Also, there's editing the post, finding correct images and proofreading multiple of times!

Getting readers, who will enjoy your content and keep returning is hard! As soon as you have a break for a week or two, it’s like starting at square one again. It’s hard to maintain even if it’s a hobby. Keeping up with social media and your emails is another thing which is time consuming and hard! Especially when you work, study, or if blogging in general isn’t a full-time thing for you.

Time and commitment;

It takes time to build an audience, it takes time to get ideas down, it takes time to write, it takes time to edit, it takes time to learn new things and in general it takes a lot of time! Blogging isn’t for everyone and anyone, it takes time and commitment. You need to constantly be generating new ideas. You need to keep at it for years until you get some recognition. Even if it's just from your blogging pals.

If you want to create content you enjoy, and want a following, then blogging takes work! It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out, or have been blogging for 10 years or more, blogging is hard regardless! Yes, if you’ve been in the industry you start to learn the tricks and tips, but you’re always constantly learning. These are just some points I thought of right now, but there are soo many more things which makes blogging hard. In a nutshell, blogging is hard. Despite if you’re just starting out or have been blogging for ages.

Thanks for reading!
Until next time, take care and keep smiling.
