How to practice gratitude

Something we all need to do more of is being thankful and practising gratitude. It’s something very close to my heart and something that I try to do every day. It isn’t easy, but it’s very rewarding. 

APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE 

It’s a simple point but so hard for many people. When you get something, appreciate it. Don’t be fussy or demanding if you didn’t get a certain thing. It just isn’t about when you get something, but its also about realising and appreciating the things you have. Appreciate everything you have in your life. From the breaths, you are able to take, to the food you choose to consume, and to the people around you. There’s no point in glooming over things you wish you had. Just appreciate the things you already have. You don’t need to buy more things, and you probably already have more than most people. Just be grateful for it all. 

PRACTICE MINDFULNESS 

When you think of practising being mindful, it’s not all about yoga or meditation. Though, they are great to learn and understand. But, there are more ways. Such as practising living in the moment, learning to pay attention to thoughts without judgements and even feeling content. Don’t stress about the future or past, just try to live in the moment and focus on what you’re doing. 

KEEP OR MAKE A GRATITUDE JOURNAL 

A great way to be more thankful is by keeping or making a gratitude journal. Writing down everything you’re thankful for. This will help you recognise the things you’re thankful for.

VOLUNTEER + GIVE BACK + DO LITTLE THINGS FOR OTHERS 

When you volunteer or give back, you have a sense of fulfilment. You’re also able to feel more grateful for the things you have. It’s such a rewarding feeling. Learn to do more great things for others, because you’ll always feel grounded. 

NOTICE 

Notice things which change and realise what you’re grateful for. Even when you notice little changes, that will help you reflect, and allow you to feel more rewarded.
